It's a Soundtrap! Multitrack Audio Editing on a Chromebook finally!

For years the best free software for multitrack audio editing has been Audacity, which only works on PC or Mac computers, now there is a new player on the block which works on Chromebooks as well as on PC and Macs.  Soundtrap.com is an online multitrack audio editor.

I used Soundtrap.com  for my fall show in which we did a voice over music quoting lines from The Breakfast Club.  It only took me about 5 minutes to get the project done. This would be a great for to use for students to create podcasts.  At my school, students create  This I Beleive project based on the NPR broadcast.   This would be the perfect tool to use with it.

Uses for Soundtrap.com in Theatre Classroom

  • Record voiceovers for shows
  • Create a soundscape such the prairie sounds in Oklahoma
  • Create your own underscoring music for your shows
  • Create and/or modify sound effects for shows.
Use of Soundtrap.com in other classrooms
  • Student interviews
  • Podcasts
  • Underscoring for student videos
  • Radio shows
  • create their own music

Thank you to Sylvia Duckworth for asking for multitrack editor for Chromebooks.  It spurred to create this blog post.
